2020 REEBOK CROSSFIT® GAMES

NOCCO AMBASSADORS COMPETING AT THE 2020 REEBOK CROSSFIT® GAMES

For the second year in a row, NOCCO will have multiple ambassadors competing in the biggest and most prestigious competition within functional fitness – The 2020 Reebok CrossFit® Games. NOCCO athletes Samantha Briggs, Haley Adams and Gabriela Migala are some of the impressive names that will lead the charge in the line-up of this year’s edition.

CrossFit® HQ earlier announced a change to the format of the 2020 Reebok CrossFit® Games. This year, the event is separated into two stages: the first stage is an online competition that takes place in the athletes’ home countries (at their local CrossFit® box), to which 30 men and 30 women are already qualified. From the online competition, the top five men and top five women will advance to the in-person finals in California, where the Fittest Man and Woman on Earth™ will then be crowned.

The online competition of the 2020 Reebok CrossFit® Games will take place between the 18th-19th of September. Find out more here: https://games.crossfit.com/games

Learn more about how the NOCCO ambassadors have been preparing during this indifferent time to battle it out at The CrossFit® Games. Bearing in mind this years CrossFit® Games will be without thousands of people cheering them on. Read all about it below.

Haley Adams

How did you qualify for The 2020 Reebok CrossFit® Games?
I qualified to the 2020 Reebok CrossFit® Games through Stregth In Depth.

How do you mentally prepare and pump yourself up to compete on the biggest stage within functional fitness, when this year, it is such a different dynamic?
I trust my training and know that I’ve prepared myself for whatever is coming, even though this year has been crazy.

How will you combat not competing side by side against the other athletes? Do you have a game plan?
Going to full send every workout as if someone was right beside me!

How did you qualify for The 2020 Reebok CrossFit Games?
Through the Dubai CrossFit® Championship.

How do you mentally prepare and pump yourself up to compete on the biggest stage within functional fitness, when this year, it is such a different dynamic?
At the end of the day regardless of the set-up, we are super competitive, so that even though we won’t be standing physically next to our competitors adrenaline will be pumping when the clock counts 3-2-1.

How will you combat not competing side by side against the other athletes? Do you have a game plan?
I just have to focus on me and the workout. Dig deep inside and make sure I give the absolute best I can give. If someone beats me, but I gave it everything, being side by side with someone wouldn’t of changed that – they were just the better athlete.

How did you qualify for The 2020 Reebok® CrossFit Games?
I qualified for the 2020 Reebok CrossFit® Games as the last guy in through the 2020 CrossFit® Open! That was a pretty big accomplishment for me because I’ve never seen myself as an open athlete, and given how the season has shaken out it‘s given me a lot of confidence for everything going forwards from that point.

How do you mentally prepare and pump yourself up to compete on the biggest stage within functional fitness, when this year, it is such a different dynamic?
I try and surround myself with folks who are on the same mission as me and I’ve got to bounce around to see some very good training partners over the last few months that have done just that. I also keep a running checklist of sorts of all the reasons I can trust the work I’ve put in and relying on that normally leaves me pretty confident that I’ll put my best foot forwards!

How will you combat not competing side by side against the other athletes? Do you have a game plan?
I’m lucky enough to be doing the 2020 Reebok CrossFit® Games in Atlanta with two other athletes who are also competing. We can’t do the workouts at the same time, but being there to encourage each other and having scores to chase should give us an advantage, and I think it’ll make it feel as close as I could get to the actual CrossFit® Games-experience without being surrounded by everyone in person.

How did you qualify for The 2020 Reebok CrossFit® Games?
I qualified for the 2020 Reebok CrossFit® Games by winning the Norwegian CrossFit® Championship in February.

How do you mentally prepare and pump yourself up to compete on the biggest stage within functional fitness, when this year, it is such a different dynamic?
I mentally prepare by keeping my mind occupied with my favorite movies, shows, and reading devotionals. I have put in the mental and physical work already so now I try to relax. I’m such a competitor at heart that I don’t need to try to pump myself up. I have so much adrenaline running through my veins to compete that I’m just trying to stay calm until it’s go time. This year is definitely more of a challenge to be excited since the magic of competing in front of a huge crowd in Madison is gone. However, this is a unique opportunity and I am grateful for it.

How will you combat not competing side by side against the other athletes? Do you have a game plan?
It will be like training day in and day out. The saying “practice like you play” really hits here. I normally train by myself so it’s no different. I have to push myself when there are no fans or other athletes beside me. There will be people coming to CrossFit® Dwala to watch me so that will give me an extra push. I stay in my lane mentally. I know my body’s physical capabilities and stick to that game plan. Having someone compete next to me only helps me know if I need to make a final push in a workout. I won’t change pace because someone is going faster or slower than me.

How did you qualify for The 2020 Reebok CrossFit Games?
I got it trough the CrossFit® sanctioned event Filthy150 in November 2019.

How do you mentally prepare and pump yourself up to compete on the biggest stage within functional fitness, when this year, it is such a different dynamic?
I love to compete! I don’t need anything else. Though I will do it in Norway together with friends and family, which gives me extra support to give everything I have.

How will you combat not competing side by side against the other athletes? Do you have a game plan?
Of course it is different without the other athletes, but it is the same for everyone, and I train a lot alone at home, so it should be good. Kristin Holte and I will do the workouts at the same gym (not at the same time), so at least we can share the experience, and compete «together» as Norwegians!

Gabriella Migala

@gabimiga

How did you qualify for The 2020 Reebok CrossFit Games?
I was 17th in the CrossFit® Open.

How do you mentally prepare and pump yourself up to compete on the biggest stage within functional fitness, when this year, it is such a different dynamic?
At the 2019 Reebok CrossFit® Games, I was cut out after the first event, which makes me eager to prove to myself that I can do better this year. Even though this season is a bit different I’ll give it everything I have.

How will you combat not competing side by side against the other athletes? Do you have a game plan?
Before I moved to Mallorca I used to train alone so I know how to push myself when I work out by myself. Also, I’m planning to have the best crew at the gym to cheer me up during the 2020 Reebok CrossFit® Games.
